me as a simpson! HAHA!!
anyway last day of baybeats was really good. wow that's pretty lag isn't it. bquartet was so awesome. i'm glad i didn't miss them. had the best last-day-before-semester-starts, supper with the boys excitedly talking about other gross boys (oh males are so bitchy), my fave hkcafe dessert and bam! two weeks of being a film student had already flew past.
i'm really enjoying it so far. it's been greeaaat. shot some footage recently with the help of some friends who've gotten to calling me lee dao with a weird hongky accent.
painting classes have been really great too. i'm glad i don't get to lose all touch with paints being in film and all that. feeling the brush and grease of oil paints on your fingers, smelling turpentine, and watching colours slowly get molded into shapes, oh it is unbeatable!
no digital media could ever ever transcend the pure meditative joy of painting.

baybeats day 2 & 3 1/2
okay it is official. after doing a random blog surf, i realised those who found baybeats actually good were 14, 15 year old emo teens. okay fine, the age group went up to 17 or 18, depending on how long these kids actually grow up from the whole let's-beat-the-shit-out-of-each-other-because-i-hear-noise phase.
okay as you can tell, i'm getting increasingly annoyed with the whole emo hardcore scene. right, i guess i just ain't appreciative, so as i said, COME ON ALREADY BAYBEATS?! THIS IS NOT EMO YEAR!
heard alittle of deputy siren, A Vacant Affair, thelovesong and blindside. well, seriously it's not hard to HEAR them. ha ha.
very disappointed with thelovesong. tight set but i'm not into the whole spoken word thing i guess. blindside was.. amusing. they were good no doubt. but i can't help being distracted by their stage antics/gymnastics. that was the highlight. and of course the really hot lead vocalist and his spiffy suspenders.
oh i'm so superficial, just like those moshers.
but i really can't comment on the music because, well it just doesn't inspire me to speak much of. i heard from my friends urbandub at the other stage were good though.
sigh, last day of baybeats, gonna give it a shot. one last time.

baybeats day 1
wow, how nostalgic! writing about baybeats.. but this time i won't be going into details about the music unless i'm really into it.
today was an eye opener. of all the years i've been to baybeats, this sight was.. almost apocalyptic. if the music wasn't epic, the crowd SURE WAS! and what an epic crowd indeed! it was almost touching to see the sea of people supporting local music.
wave after wave after wave of relentless heads illuminated by bright stage lights. just, wow!
if you'd ever had dreams of being a rockstar, you would understand what it feels like to see SOOOO MANY PEOPLE!
caught Azmyl Yunor, utopium and plainsunset. i really pity utopium. from a satisfying amount of audience, as the set went on, the powerhouse became soooo sparse! not that they were horrible or anything. i guess they're just not EMO enough.
but i'd have to say, from their myspace site to seeing them live... well it is pretty disappointing. (imagine expecting some post rock goodness, or what they claim to be mogwai-ish, placebo-ish but end up getting a paler distant cousin of placebo) though the lead singer does have a robot like david bowie accent which was pretty endearing, at first.
trooped over to arena for plainsunset. and yea that was where the epic sight greeted me. WOOOAAAH! it's like singapore popped a million babies out of the air!
they're really tight. alot of people had fun. the security didn't have fun. i was.. just a-okay about their music. maybe it was hard for me to get into it because i was soo far away. on an overhead bridge to be exact.
tomorrow looks rockinnn. i'll be looking forward to THELOVESONG! woo! i've a soft spot for hk bands, yes i do.
do check out baybeats people. but wear as little as possible. nobody is gonna care about your nicely coiffured hair, mascara or tight skinnies. you don't wanna worry about smudging or ruining any of these unneccessary preparations while having a good time.

hello, i'm reviving this. but not the tagboard, kinda lazy to sign up for another one.
so i just painted the cutest cat ever. as in, for a first attempt at painting a cat, it looks pretty damn cute to me. yea, i realised of all things i painted, i've never painted cats. not that i've painted many things anyway, mostly female portraiture and female bodies. how adventurous.
the holidays have been cruel. they past too quickly and my procrastination eats up time too greedily. hopefully i could finish this neko painting for manda by this friday.
and then it's BAYBEATS! of all the years i've attended, this year, frankly, i'm the least excited. the local bands lineup is.. ok. pretty good but somehow, they just all sound the same. not like the band i'm in plays anything different too. maybe i'm just too much into folk, psychedelia/electronica/post rock and obviously, baybeats does not exactly cater to these.
when you grow older, your music tastes change. baybeats SHOULD evolve too, to include more diverse genres. we can't have increasing numbers of 14, 15 year olds trooping into the mosh pit to shove each other around and not listen to the music.
or even when the music is slow, they push each other in slow-mo. HAHAHA. okay sorry, it's a bad joke g told me.
i'm easily amused.
school would also be starting soon. i hope you would be kind to me, school. and our gig is coming soon. which means, crazy tight schedules and lugging my bass across ends of singapore.
since we're on the topic of music, i'm trying to self teach myself devendra banhart songs on the guitar. HAHA
so far, i managed to learn one emo song. go me! now, whenever i see a guitar around, i can pick it up and strum and croon. to an imaginary lover no less.
